| Kente Kente is a special kind of colourful handwoven textile strips from Ghana. Their width is about 10 cm. Men weave them on small looms. The material used is silk. They ditsinguish themselves through their colourfulness and geometrical patterns. Sometimes plain coloured material is added to it which harmonize with the geometrical pieces and create an individual rhythm of their own. Kente was originally reserved only for Kings to wear. It is still a festive dress in Ghana. The strips are sewn together and then either worn around the hips or used as a shawl. |
